Spicy Italian Sausage and Peppers Rustica! Yum.

Alright, this is one of my go to recipes for any night of the week that we are hungry and also lazy! lol its really easy, really yummy and really CHEAP to make!

Bits and Pieces:

 Ingredients:

  • Hot Italian sausage
  • Pasta of your choice
  • Garlic - A lot
  • Basil, fresh
  • Oregano
  • Olive oil
  • Seasonings of your choice
  • Parmesan cheese
  • 2 bell peppers, I use the fancy colors to make it .. well.. fancy.
  • Yellow onion
  • Pasta sauce of your choice
  • Diced tomatoes with chilies
  • A dry red wine. This is a crucial part of the recipe!
  • and this time i threw in mushrooms, cause let's face it, they are YUMMY.

Chop your peppers, onions, garlic and basil. Set aside.

Here's a tip when chopping basil, take a few leaves and layer them on top of each other, then roll them up tight and chop!

Then remove the casings from the sausage. Form into little balls of spicy meat! If you are a bit on the healthy side you can also use ground turkey or turkey sausage for this as well! It is just as good!

Put oil in a deep pan and heat to SUPER CRAZY HOT! Then throw in your chopped veggies!

Let them sweat for about 7 minutes till onions brown up a bit and the peppers soften.  Then add the meaty balls of joy!

Let them sit for a few minutes and then turn with a spatula ensuring that they are all brown and no longer pink.

....Then....Add...Some....WINE!

Then take a swig right out of the bottle! Cause you're CLASSY and let's face it, things just taste better with wine in your system!

Then Smile cause you are creating something delicious and boozing it up. Hooray for multitasking!

Alright, once your balls are browned add in some mushrooms!

Now while that's getting all yummy, I put the sauce, the diced canned tomatoes and chilies and the basil/oregano in the crock pot to heat up!

Then throw some cheese, seasonings and more wine in it!

Once the meatballs and veggies are completely cooked empty them into the crock pot and let simmer on low for around an hour!

Make however much you need of your favorite type of pasta or whatever you may have laying around the house! Then make yourself a big steamy bowl of deliciousness! ...You're welcome! Enjoy!
